What’s on in the ‘hood this weekend

Halloween is over for another year but November means the market and festival season is just starting to get going. Here’s a selection of what’s happening across the ‘hood this coming weekend/week. Enjoy!

Friday 2 November

Are you a Dad with no idea how to braid hair? Keen to learn or just have some fun Daddy daughter time? Hairlarious Kidz in the Mezz at Mount Hawthorn are hosting a Dads and Daughters Hair Braiding lesson from 5pm. It’s at 5:oopm and tickets are $10 which includes food. Saturday 3 November

St Augustine’s Anglican Church in Bayswater is hosting a Spring Fair from 8am to 12pm. There’s be lots of stalls including plants, cakes, jams, craft, jumble and toys plus a raffle, auction, kids games, bouncy castle and sausage sizzle. Great idea for a morning out with the fam and entry is free.

The Gourmet Market on Beaufort will be held on the corner of First Ave & Beaufort Streets from 3pm to 8pm. Entry is free and there will be gourmet produce to taste and buy, gourmet food vendors and entertainment.

The always fun Pride Fairday which is held each year as the launch event to PrideFest is on from 1pm to 10pm at Birdwood Square on the corner of Brisbane & Beaufort Streets. It’s a family friendly party with entertainment, kids activities, dog show and more. For information and tickets visit their FB page.

Sunday 4 November

Relax and create at the The Art Garage 191‘s Macrame Plant Hanger Workshop from 1pm to 3pm in Mount Hawthorn. Tickets are $85 which includes all materials and a light afternoon tea. See their FB event page for details.

Wednesday 7 November 

The folks at Creative Maylands are running another Maylands Neighbourhood Soup night at Nelson’s Pop Up Bar starting at 6pm. It’s not just for Maylands residents and anyone from the surrounding ‘hoods can attend and also pitch for funding. The event is a micro-granting dinner to encourage and fund creative projects that benefit the local community – including art, green space, social justice, education, technology and other ideas. Tickets are $10 (which includes soup!) and you get to listen to and question four individuals or groups pitching their ideas with the most popular winning the proceeds to implement it.
