There are so many great small bars in our ‘hood that it’s too hard to pick just 5, so this is a two parter broken into small bars East of and including Beaufort Street as Part 1. It’s also a struggle deciding what’s small and what’s not, so I’m well aware that I may have left off your fave or included or excluded a place that you think is or isn’t small – so feel free to leave your comments on your fave below!
198 Whatley Cres,

A true small neighbourhood bar this popular and intimate gem has live music 3 times a week and DJ on Saturdays. Serves great food too.

Another popular Maylands small bar that hosts Live Art Mondays and other live music and special events. They do great food and are popular for coffee (or a Bloody Mary) and brunch on the weekends. $10 Espresso Martinis on Sundays.

Cecchi’s is cleverly set out into three different spaces but it’s the casual indoor small bar area and outdoor alfresco that are my faves. Work your way through their short but highly moreish cocktail menu whilst feasting on their yummy bar snacks – the pork belly lollipops are the bomb.
12/760 Beaufort Street,
Mount Lawley
Open 6am to 2pm Mon & Tues
6am to 10pm Weds & Thurs
6am to 11:45pm Fri & Sat; 6am to 10pm Sun
Following on from the success of their hugely popular restaurant a block down the road, the family behind Three Coins saw an opportunity to fill a gap in the Avenues section of Beaufort Street and opened this little gem, Trio Cafe & Wine Bar. It does coffee and Italian inspired brunch during the day, or you can slip in a cheeky wine at lunch, and the cocktail bar kicks off from sunset.
484 Beaufort Street,
Highgate
Open 3om to 10pm Weds & Thurs
12pm to 12pm Fri to Sun
Closed Mon & Tues
Those who love their wine and love small bars that are passionate about wine will love Harvey Leigh’s at Highgate. The newest of the small bars listed here it’s quickly garnered a great reputation and recently opened the much larger Harvey Leighs Public House next door. But the intimate space here is what I prefer. The french style food is pretty awesome too.
And don’t forget to check out Part 2 which will feature small bars West of Beaufort Street – enjoy!
