Out & about in Winter

Sherbert

Tired of being cooped up indoors? Here are some of the things that I like to do to help brighten and warm up Winter:

1. Sip a hot cup of chai tea or coffee and eat cake at a cafe’s on Whatley Cres or Eighth Avenue in Maylands.

Mrs. S, Sherbet, Chapel’s on Whatley, Old Bakery on Eighth or Milk’d are all great choices. Once you’re suitably sated you can check out the fabulous retail shops, buy yourself some flowers from The Green Door Florist and pick up the ingredients for a warming Winter dinner (or buy a pre-made dinner) from Smoult’s Continental Deli. Sorted.

2. Curl up on the lounge of Five Bar in Mt Lawley.

It boasts Mt Lawley’s cheapest coffee, free wi-fi, a good wine list and great food. No need to move really.

3. Go out for a family friendly lunch in Inglewood.

My kids love Estia, Mille Cafe and the Inglewood Hotel, all of which have good kids menu’s, generous portions and reasonable prices. (ok, I know the latter is technically in Mt Lawley but it’s barely over the border, really!).

4. Visit Angove Street, North Perth.

Treat yourself to a dose of real or vicarious retail therapy at S2 or Cool Calm and Collected, followed by coffee, biscuits and pastries at Fiorentina, brunch or lunch at Metrio, more coffee at Milk’d or a yummy lunch or snack from Pimlott & Strand, just around the corner on Fitzgerald Street.

And if the weather is fine?!

5. Hit a Park.

Be good to your body and top up your vitamin D levels by taking the dog, kids or yourself out to one of our wonderful local parks. Yokine Reserve in Yokine, Forrest Park in Mt Lawley, the Dianella Playspace on Light Street in Dianella and Riverside Gardens in Bayswater are people, pooch and kid friendly with playgrounds, footpaths and lots of wide open spaces to soak up the sun. At Riverside Gardens, the mobile Cool Breeze Cafe is normally on site to warm you up with a hot chocolate or caffeine fix on the weekends too.

Which are your favourites? What other things do you enjoy getting out to do locally in Winter? Love to hear your feedback and suggestions.
